How your city damages your health
and costs you around £5,000 a year. 10% cost to your health, education and career The air in your home, office or classroom generally becomes unhealthy after 2 hours of occupation if the windows are not opened. Our ventilation regulations that primarily rely on open windows were never fit for purpose. Poor quality air causes fatigue, poor concentration, the increased spread of colds and flu and in the long term is a contributory factor to many serious diseases. Children can lose the equivalent of a year at school through classrooms with poor ventilation. 40 separate studies show that providing proper ventilation increases productivity by 10%. Your career, health and education were probably therefore diminished by around 10%. As productivity growth drives wage growth, a 10% productivity boost can lead to a £5,000 income boost per household. The payback for a good ventilation system may only be a few months. £1,000 a year from a 7% saving rate Saving rates are near 0%. Utility scale solar power provides the cheapest electricity in France, Italy & Spain and gives investors around a 7% return. Utility scale power is photovoltaic panels in fields. We need photovoltaic panels in 2 fields out of every 100 to generate all our own power or less if we add wind turbines and photovoltaic panels on roofs. As costs continue to fall, Southern England and Ireland will achieve a 7% return later this year and then we will here soon after. We should own and generate all our own power locally, allowing households to get the 7% return or around £1,000 per year. This money currently leaves the local economy. £1,500 a year on switching to Electric Cars Switching to electric cars will save a household around £1,500 a year. Better public transport, better transport choices and better greenways will allow households to save even more money. This money currently leaves the local economy. £500 fuel savings on better household energy efficiency There are around £500 of energy efficiency improvements that can be made to the average home with paybacks of less than 5 years. Every home should get a free energy and health survey. This money currently leaves the local economy. £1,000 reduction in health service costs In 2010 the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee estimated the cost of health impacts of air pollution at between £8 and £20 billion per year or around £400 to £1,000 per household. Eliminating air pollution will make households up to £1,000 a year better off. £25,000 for new jobs If we became a destination city for Birthdays and Anniversaries, the new jobs created could boost some household incomes by around £25,000. London, Londonderry and Derry Strong local economies, the Derry and Londonderry economies, make you richer by keeping more money circulating in the local economy. Strong central economies, the London economies, make you poorer by sucking money out of the local economy. |
If you think fixing just this city won’t be enough then help fix every city
You will have to take on the role of Cuchulainn. That will mean you taking on the role of Cuchulainn in a Play. The Play is a re-telling of the legend of “Cuchulainn and Emer” when Cuchulainn undertakes a great challenge to prove his love for Emer. Emer represents your family and friends. The play is based on the Millennium Competition Entry MC/N/4563 and tells the story of how a boy tries to win the world’s biggest cultural competition for a girl. Unfortunately for the boy, winning a Millennium Competition ultimately means saving the whole world. That’s where you come in, as you play Cuchulainn, to save Emer, you too will have to save the whole world. The world’s most important cultural event Despite most people never hearing of the Millennium Competition, it’s still the world’s most important cultural event, because it’s the one that can be used to save the planet, as the planet is the link between all the generations. It can also, however, be used to make the city a destination for two of the best visitor markets, Birthdays and Anniversaries. The worlds we build for each other built the world The Millennium Competition asked who built the world. Capitalism or Communism, Derry’s or Londonderry’s never built the world. People did. The worlds we build for each other add up to the whole world. These are the worlds we celebrate through Birthdays and Anniversaries. Name the city after the people who built the world By allowing people to add their names to the city name and their life stories to be told on the city gallery, the city can win the Millennium Competition. Win the Millennium Competition and you will have made the city a destination for Birthdays and Anniversaries. Fix your world. Fix our world. Fix their world. Pollution in your environment shortens your life, damages your health and reduces your income by around £5,000 a year. Rising global warming will further damage your health and income. Fixing pollution in a city also helps decarbonise that city which helps stop global warming. We will use the money generated from the play to build the city gallery. We will use the money generated from the city gallery to create a healthy environment for our city and decarbonise the city. We can then show visitors how they can create a healthy environment for their cities, decarbonise their cities and make themselves £5,000 a year better off. Not only will that be a great birthday or anniversary present for our visitors, it will also be a great present for us. You, your granny, your children and Cuchulainn The planet is the link between your generation, your granny’s generations and your children’s generations. Winning a Millennium Competition therefore also means protecting this link. All cultures have a Cuchulainn. Great heroes who stand up for their people in troubled times. As troubled times go for the planet, this is as bad as it gets. A big free city sized advertisement Allowing people to add their names to the city name means the city’s name becomes one big free city sized advertisement for the city as a destination for Birthdays and Anniversaries. And if you chose to be Cuchulainn, if you chose to stand up for the planet and its peoples, then you will have provided the ending we need, for the story we need, to sell the city around the world. |
